Wind and Sea
Winds
Due to the prevailing year-round trade winds, Long
Bay gets ideal winds for Kiteboarding. The winds
range from 15-25mph and blow the greater part of
the year. The wind angle here is side/on shore, making it a safe location for kiting (no being blown out to
sea).
FAQ: If Long Bay is good for kiting, is it good for
just lying on the beach?
Providenciales is an almost flat sandbar in the middle
of the ocean, with the highest point being 120ft about
sea level. All the beaches get the same wind strength.
The difference is just in the direction. Long Bay is
best for kiting because the side/on shore wind makes
it safe. That same wind on Grace Bay is an offshore
wind that is more dangerous for kiters. But for
sunning on the beach, the breeze is the same everywhere.
And you’ll be glad for it. On days when there
is no breeze, it’s hot out there! It's all part of the amazing location, which is why our guests come back again and again for their Turks and Caicos vacations.
Shallow seas
The sea here is in front of Esencia is shallow – you
can stand up and walk a long ways out before the
water deepens. This makes it ideal for learning how to
kiteboard, as you can stand up and walk out a safe ways
away from the beach, and if you crash your kite or
lose your board you can easily walk over to them.
Water Temperature
Water temperature here ranges from 75°F in the winter
to 85°F in the summer. Even winter temperatures
are comfortable and at most you might want a thin
dive shirt. Summer temperatures are like a cool bath.
Pretty much year round (except when an occasional
storm comes down from the USA in winter) you can
spend hours comfortably in the water, or in our Caribbean Villas. |
